Job Description:

The Veteran Wellness & Support Specialist will focus on the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of veterans. Key Responsibilities:

  • Mental Health Support: Provide initial support and guidance to veterans dealing with mental health issues, connecting them to appropriate counseling services, VA mental health programs, or community support groups.

  • Wellness Programs: Develop and implement wellness programs tailored to veterans needs, such as yoga, meditation, physical fitness, nutrition advice, or stress management workshops.

  • Peer Support: Facilitate peer-to-peer support groups where veterans can share experiences and strategies for coping with life after service.

  • Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Work closely with local healthcare providers, VA hospitals, and other community organizations to coordinate care for veterans in need of mental health or physical treatment.

  • Crisis Intervention: Act as a first responder in crisis situations, offering immediate support or connecting veterans to emergency services when necessary.

  • Resource Management: Maintain an updated list of wellness resources available to veterans, from mental health professionals to recreational programs designed for veterans.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in counseling, psychology, or social work (preferably with military veterans).

  • Strong understanding of mental health challenges and wellness issues common among veterans.

  • Ability to organize wellness events and programs.

  • Compassionate and non-judgmental attitude, with excellent interpersonal skills.

Why this role is important:

  • Mental Health Focus: Many veterans face mental health challenges that are not always addressed. This role creates a space for veterans to seek support in a non-stigmatized environment.

  • Holistic Care: By addressing wellness on multiple levels (physical, mental, and emotional), this position promotes the overall health of veterans, helping them lead fulfilling post-service lives.

  • Crisis Prevention: Having a dedicated specialist helps prevent crises by providing early intervention and access to support services before things escalate.
